Valentine’s Day Heart Yarn Garland DIY

IMG_6321.JPG

The busy holiday season is over and our home has been wiped clean of any Christmas decor for a few weeks now. It’s been nice having a more simple feel but I think it’s time to bring in some pops of red + pink because Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays! A day to celebrate love and I love love! Did I mention my birthday is the day before Valentine’s Day? Oh yea, it is! I also love to celebrate, so February is all about celebrating - even if Brandon thinks I’m extra.

It was Friday night - I grabbed some take out (an Elevation burger is my guilty pleasure) turned on my Anatomy lecture, Brandon was hanging out with his friends and I’ve a few craft supplies I haven’t used laying around - some felt, yarn and a brand new Pom Pom maker that was in my stocking from Christmas.. so I decided to make a Valentine’s Day garland.

This Valentine’s garland has a fun combination of textures and would be the perfect addition to a mantle or above a kitchen window. It’s also easy enough that anyone could make one!

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Cut out 12 (2.5 inches wide) red felt hearts

  2. Make 3 pink yarn tassels

    1. Measure two pieces of string - (1) 6 inches (1) 9 inches

    2. Wrap pink yarn around the length of your four fingers loosely (about 20 times)

    3. Cut the end of the yarn

    4. Slowly pull the looped yarn off your fingers and tie the (6inch) piece of yarn to secure the loops together

    5. measure about 2 inches down from the top of the loops and tie the (9inch) piece of yarn around the yarn loops

    6. cut the bottom of the looped yarn and trim ends

  1. Make 2 white yarn Pom poms - Brandon put a Pom Pom maker in my stocking and once I got the hang of it, it was so simple!

  2. Sew together and make 6 stuffed hearts

    1. Lay one heart on top of another and sew around the outside with white thread, stopping when there is about 1/3 of the way left

    2. Stuff cotton filling into the opening and then finish sewing up the rest of the heart.

    3. Cut a long piece of white yarn about 6 feet in length

    4. Organize the Pom Poms, tassels, and heart in a pattern you like on the white yarn and then secure.

      1. I tied on the Pom poms and tassels and then sewed the hearts around the yarn!

    5. Display and enjoy!
